About the Exhibition

What if picking up a phone could connect you to yourself, to the Divine, and to your community?

Inspired by the philosophy of Martin Buber and Jewish spiritual traditions, Samantha Grant’s THE I & THOU PHONE transforms a collection of vintage telephones into spaces for reflection, conversation, and authentic connection.

The experience begins inside a vintage phone booth, where you’ll receive a prompt inspired by questions facing Jewish communities today. From there, you’re invited into the ancient Jewish practice of speaking openly and honestly to the Divine as you would to a trusted friend.

Afterward, participants are invited to continue the conversation with one another, exploring how deep listening and genuine presence can strengthen our relationships and expand our understanding of ourselves, our communities, and the world around us.

Both contemplative and interactive, THE I & THOU PHONE offers an ancient antidote to the distractions of the digital age, inviting us to pause, listen, and reconnect with ourselves, one another, and something greater.
