Hava NaBaby: Becoming A Grandparent

Becoming a grandparent is more than welcoming a new baby, it’s the beginning of a new chapter in your family’s story. 

Designed for expectant grandparents and those already enjoying the role, this meaningful and creative workshop invites you to reflect on the stories, traditions, values, and wisdom you hope to carry forward to the next generation. 

Together, with Rabbi Batshir, we’ll explore what you’ve inherited from those who came before you, what you’ve learned through parenting, and what you hope to pass along to your children and grandchildren. 

You’ll begin creating a personal “gift basket” of family memories and generational wisdom. Fill it with treasured family stories, meaningful moments from your children’s childhood, photographs and recipes, lessons learned from your own parents, letters to your future grandchild, an ethical will, and your hopes and dreams for the generations to come. 

And as you prepare for your new role, discover a special way to support your children as they prepare for theirs. We’ll introduce our new expectant parents program with partners Hava NaBaby, where childbirth education, Jewish wisdom and lasting friendships come together. Give them a meaningful head start on their parenting journey.

Rabbi Batshir Torchio is a ritual and spiritual practitioner who has been engaging with folks for lifecycle events and learning. She was ordained at AJRCA in Los Angeles, where she learned with rabbis and scholars from across the broad spectrum of Jewish movements. Batshir is moved by the translation and ownership of ancient ritual into contemporary meaning; to “make the old new, and the new, holy.” (Rav Kook) In addition to her role as Senior Jewish Educator at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, Batshir also guides tours through Israel and Poland, and is a life-cycle officiant, both locally and abroad.
