Originating in the late 60s, Jamaican musicians fused American soul and their island’s folk music and rhythms to create reggae and popularize it throughout the world. Rock and soul music historian and author Richie Unterberger spotlights vintage filmed performances by reggae icons such as Bob Marley & the Wailers, Jimmy Cliff, Toots & the Maytals, Millie Small, Desmond Dekker, and others. With its message of unity, social justice, and love, Reggae has significantly impacted popular music worldwide. 

Rock historian Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books, including volumes on the Beatles, the Who, the Velvet Underground, Bob Marley, and 1960s folk-rock. He teaches courses on rock and soul music history at several Bay Area colleges. His latest book, San Francisco: Portrait of a City, was published by Taschen in 2022.
