Directed by visionary African American film maker Ava DuVernay, and featuring a star-studded cast including Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., and David Oyelowo as Dr. King, this film chronicles the campaign to secure equal voting rights.

The portrait of Dr. King is one of relatable humanity which includes humor, strength, frustration and exhaustion. His efforts culminated in President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement.  However, some critics accused the director of unfairly portraying LBJ as less invested in voting rights than is historically accurate.
