LILY HENLEY – A NIGHT OF LADINO

Join us for an unforgettable evening with Lily Henley, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Duncan Wickel, as they celebrate the rich cultural legacy of Ladino, a critically endangered language and musical tradition rooted in the Sephardic diaspora that fuses old Spanish with Hebrew, Arabic, Turkish, and Persian elements spoken by less than 100,000 people in the world today.

With her latest album, Oras Dezaoradas, named Best Album of the Year by Hey Alma Magazine, Henley revitalizes these melodies, weaving together the hopes, dreams, and stories of Sephardic women across generations. Her performances build bridges between past and present, connecting audiences to the vibrant cultural legacy of the Sephardi people. 

Renowned for her bell-like vocals and expressive songwriting, Lily Henley masterfully blends her Sephardic heritage with her American and Celtic musical roots. Her work highlights the interconnectedness of languages, cultures, and traditions, inviting audiences to explore their own heritage through her deeply personal and evocative performances. 

Henley’s musical journey includes performances at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and the New York Sephardic Music Festival. A Fulbright award recipient, she has toured internationally as the frontwoman of the mystic-folk band Rising Appalachia and collaborated with an array of celebrated folk artists. 

Award-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer, and inventor Duncan Wickel is “a considerable talent…as persuasive in a traditional ballad as he is country fiddling or ripping through cascading classical flourishes or atonal double-stops” (The Boston Globe). Duncan has performed with Jon Batiste and Stay Human and Parliament Funkadelic on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Along with Rising Appalachia, he performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series.
