JUDAISM IS SO QUEER

Judaism is queer in the sense that its ideas, demographics, many iterations and reinvention have made it one of the world’s most successful outlier cultures.

Maggid Jhos Singer, himself Queer and Jewish, will dig into how this fascinating culture has evolved and endured while continually generating new and important developments in culture, science, society, and theology. We will consider some of Judaism’s core concepts and historic moves that supported its ability to adapt and migrate while skirting extinction time and time again, and often breaking new ground in times of crisis and doubt.

Maggid Jhos Singer serves the JCCSF as a community Jewish educator where he founded QueerCore Talmud – a queer normative, SVARA method beit midrash. Maggid Singer is a professional Jewish educator, community and congregational leader, writer and speaker. As an out trans man, Jhos is deeply committed to recognizing the holy in each human he encounters. Jhos seamlessly engages his students in conversation about Jewish spirit, text, story, tradition and being. He is a past congregational leader of Chochmat HaLev and the Coastside Jewish Community.
