Early San Francisco Punk and New Wave: Anarchy in the USA

In punk and new wave’s first decade, the Bay Area had one of the country’s most vibrant clusters of these musical genres, even if few of them received the attention and commercial success of the most famous ones in New York, London, and Los Angeles. Rock historian and author Richie Unterberger presents a program featuring film clips of more than a dozen of the best acts in the scene. The Avengers, Crime, the Residents, the Mutants, the Sleepers, Flipper, and Romeo Void are among the bands who will be spotlighted. 

Author and rock historian Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books, including volumes on the Beatles, the Who, the Velvet Underground, Bob Marley, and 1960s folk-rock. He teaches courses on rock and soul music history at several Bay Area colleges. His latest book, San Francisco: Portrait of a City, was published by Taschen in 2022.
