David Bowie: Glam Rock’s Starman

Rock music historian Richie Unterberger will present a wide-ranging program on David Bowie, singer, songwriter and actor. Bowie’s immensely innovative body of work not only influenced music but also art, fashion and film. Bowie evolved through a series of phenomenal musical incarnations, from the folk-rock/psychedelia of “Space Oddity” and his rise to glam superstardom in the Ziggy Stardust era to his exploration of blue-eyed soul and electronic rock. We’ll rock out to some of Bowie’s greatest songs, from “Space Oddity” and “Starman” all the way to  “Young Americans” and “Let’s Dance.” 

Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books, including volumes on the Beatles, the Who, the Velvet Underground, Bob Marley, and 1960s folk-rock. He teaches courses on rock and soul music history at several Bay Area colleges. His latest book, San Francisco: Portrait of a City, was published by Taschen earlier this year.
