Sandro Botticelli, Study for the Portrait of a Lady in Profile, 1485.
Sandro Botticelli (1440-1510) is well known for iconic paintings such as The Birth of Venus and La Primavera, but not recognized for his drawings. This Legion of Honor exhibition includes almost sixty objects, many of which have never been outside of their public or private collections. Through these compositions, we’ll discover the foundational role his drawings had on his work, his experimental drawing techniques, his command of the line as well as his never-ending quest for beauty. Join us as we follow Botticelli’s artistic evolution and his personal journey.
Christina Crosby graduated in art history from Pomona College. After attending Loyola Law School and a 30-year legal career focused on helping public agencies and non-profit organizations raise money for capital projects through the issuance of bonds, she returned to her first love of art history by entering the docent program at the Fine Arts Museums in 2011.
In addition to giving lectures throughout the Bay Area, Christina shares her love of art with museum visitors at both the de Young and Legion of Honor. She also loves to travel, with museums always a featured part of the itinerary.
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) are comprised of two iconic sites in San Francisco’s beautiful parks- the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and Legion of Honor Museum in Lincoln Park. As the largest public arts institution in the western United States, the Museums house a world-class collection of 151,000 artworks that span more than 5,000 years.
The JCCSF and FAMSF have collaborated for over a decade, and we are grateful that FAMSF graciously shares the beauty and history of their collections with the community through inspiring educational docent talks.
