A Stunning New Experience

Thanks to the Estate of Maurice Kanbar z”l

Thanks to a generous legacy gift from the estate of Maurice Kanbar (z”l), we’re transforming Kanbar Hall into a state-of-the-art venue. Maurice’s gifts across his lifetime and beyond total an extraordinary $8 million in support of the JCCSF. Through his transformative generosity, we’re thrilled to see the space evolving. Recent work in December has focused on a full acoustical analysis of the space along with the installation of acoustic wall panels, accompanied by the lively soundtrack of hammers and drills. Our brand-new giant projection screen has arrived, and the Dolby Atmos speakers are here! It’s so exciting that our audio-visual partners have moved in to begin installing the technology – the transformation is truly taking shape.

Opening March 2026

Starting in September 2025, Kanbar Hall – the heart of Arts & Ideas at the JCCSF – is undergoing a major renovation. For more than two decades, this beloved theater has hosted unforgettable performances, inspiring speakers, and community celebrations. Now, it’s time to reimagine the space for the next generation.

New features like digital projection and Dolby Atmos surround sound will elevate every experience – from film screenings and cultural talks to private event rentals and special events.
