Join fellow JCCSF ECE families for this inaugural community retreat at Camp Newman’s gorgeous Santa Rosa campus this fall. Deepen existing friendships, build new connections, and strengthen the relationships that will continue long after your JCCSF early childhood experience. This weekend has been designed just for you in collaboration with URJ Camp Newman, created specially during the fall harvest festival of Sukkot!

This Shabbat retreat is exclusively for families with recent graduates and rising TK students from all three JCCSF ECE locations (GK, Elan Garten and Eytzim 2025-26 and 2026-27). Be a part of starting this new tradition with an unforgettable weekend filled with nature, discovery, and Jewish joy. Older and younger siblings are welcome!

What is a shabbaton?

A Shabbaton is a weekend retreat for all ages and stages! From Friday evening to Sunday morning, your family will enjoy a unique blend of Jewish family programming and classic camp activities, while celebrating the Sukkot traditions of spending time outdoors and gathering in a sukkah. Highlights include an all-family Shabbat, building & decorating a community sukkah, delicious food, comfortable accommodations, evening happy hours for adults, a family talent show, and of course, s’mores. Curated workshops are led by JCCSF’s Rabbi Batshir Torchio, Senior Director of Early Childhood Education Lisa Monette and Camp Newman’s activity specialists.

Learn more about the weekend schedule, activities, lodging and fees. Advanced registration is required. Families can join in any combo of kids and adults. Your child must be accompanied by at least one adult. Weekend packages start at $1300/family.

Enjoy a weekend in nature, with the convenience of a fully-remodeled retreat center. Take time for onsite hiking trails, a walk through the trees and gaze up at the stars.

Building Community

ECE families deepen existing friendships and build new connections through a joyful Shabbat, building a community sukkah, sharing meals, fun camp activities and more.

Evenings by the firepit

Parents can enjoy evenings outside the cabin with friends, drinks and s’mores by a cozy firepit. Counselors watch over the kids so grown-ups get to enjoy a happy hour and connection.

Classic Camp Fun

During special breakout sessions, children make memories with their counselors and new friends while parents can choose from a variety of adult programming – or simply enjoy some well-deserved downtime.

Family Time

From Friday evening to Sunday morning your family can enjoy a unique blend of Jewish family programming and classic camp activities like song sessions, tie dye, nature walks, and more.

Fun for younger siblings

Childcare is available for toddlers and babies who enjoy music and dancing (maybe even a nap!) while grown-ups select their own activities and workshops.

Something for everyone

Older siblings can try out the high ropes challenge course and other camp activities designed just for them.
