Shabbat Ritual Set Ceramic Workshop

Get your hands in the clay and your spirit in the flow as you’re immersed in the art of slowing down, creating intention, and bringing beauty into your home at the JCCSF Ceramics Studio! In this hands-on joyful workshop led by ceramicist Amber Allen, you’ll learn approachable hand-building techniques to design and craft your very own one-of-a-kind Shabbat ritual set: a pair of candlesticks, a kiddush cup and a challah plate. 

This ceramics class an opportunity to connect tradition with personal expression. Through guided instruction and thoughtful experimentation, you’ll explore form, texture, and design while shaping pieces that reflect your modern life and Jewish ritual practice. Whether you’re brand new to clay or returning to the studio, you’ll be supported every step of the way in a warm, creative, community-centered environment.  

Once your pieces take shape, you’ll choose from a curated selection of glazes to add color, depth, and character. Our studio team will professionally glaze and fire your work, preparing it for pickup on Friday, just in time to light up your table and welcome Shabbat with meaningful objects you made by hand. 

Your registration includes all materials and expert instruction to create one complete ritual set. Attend solo or share the experience with a loved one, each registration allows up to two participants to collaborate on a single set.  

For ages 14+. No prior experience needed. All ceramics levels welcome.

 ABOUT THE FACILITATOR 

Amber Allen is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the dualities of destruction & repair, concealment vs. exploration, and nostalgia for the past combined with her complex hopes for the future. Always on the lookout for fun yet meaningful subjects, she creates art about a large variety of topics with a throughline of space-age themes as a metaphor for the human condition. 

Born in Indiana in 1992, Allen knew from the moment she completed her first still life painting at age fifteen that she would become an artist. Often moving from place to place growing up, she settled in the Bay Area for college and began to explore her disparate interests. A graduate of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Allen has exhibited her work in solo shows in California, and group shows across the US.
