Journeys of Hope: Trans Justice Shabbat at Sha’ar Zahav

Come together for an evening of connection, courage, and community care at this special pre-Shabbat gathering with Lambda Legal CEO Kevin Jennings. In a moment when transgender and LGBTQ+ rights are under attack across the country, this conversation offers both grounding and hope – reminding us of the power of collective action, resilience, and showing up for one another.

This program is part of Sha’ar Zahav’s. monthly TJIF (Trans Justice It’s Friday!)  activist space that invites absolutely everyone to be part of the resistance against anti-trans legislation.

6:00 – 7:15 PM: Talk with Lambda Legal 

Lambda Legal CEO Kevin Jennings discusses current advocacy for the rights of transgender and non-binary people as well as the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. During the first Trump administration, Lambda Legal sued to block Trump’s executive orders and policies – and won 86% of the time.

7:30 – 9:00 PM: Shabbat Services & Oneg 

After the talk, join in community for Shabbat services, followed by a joyful and delicious oneg.   

Lambda Legal CEO Kevin Jennings will offer a sermon, sharing stories of those who came before us and found a way to maintain hope and fight for freedom even in the darkest of days. The LGBTQ+ community has faced hard times before – but its resilience is legendary, and the community has proven time and time again that it has the ability to survive and even thrive in the face of enormous challenges. 

Sha’ar Zahav is San Francisco’s only LGBTQIA+ synagogue. All are welcome
