Sid Caesar: Comedy Pioneer

In the beginning of the 1950s, Sid Caesar invented television sketch comedy as one of the major performers of the weekly Your Show of Shows live variety program. Richie Unterberger presents highlights from this legendary Jewish comic’s work, spotlighting his skill at both gymnastic physical routines and verbal repartee. Clips will include other notable comics featured on the show, such as Carl Reiner and Imogene Coca. Additionally, the show’s writers included the talents of such up-and-coming celebrities such as Mel Brooks and Woody Allen. 

Rock historian Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books, including volumes on the Beatles, the Who, the Velvet Underground, Bob Marley, and 1960s folk-rock. He teaches courses on rock and soul music history at several Bay Area colleges. His latest book, San Francisco: Portrait of a City, was published by Taschen in 2022.
