Jewish Community Center of San Francisco and Value Culture to Host Special Shabbat Dinner on Friday Highlighting Yemeni Cultural Connections
SAN FRANCISCO, CA— This Friday, the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (JCSCSF) will host a special Shabbat dinner featuring Yemeni cuisine and music, including performances from members of the Yemenite Orchestra. The event, part of the JCCSF’s ongoing partnership with the local nonprofit organization Value Culture, will offer an opportunity for attendees to share lived experiences and connect over their rich, shared tradition of Judaism.
“This event is the perfect representation of what we offer at the JCCSF,” said Paul Geduldig, CEO of the JCCSF. “This will be a moment to enjoy delicious food, hear great music and bring multiple communities together under one roof. We are incredibly excited to be partnering again with Value Culture on this event and can’t wait to welcome these great musicians to our home.”
The Shabbat dinner will include an array of savory Yemeni dishes provided by The Ma’lawah Bar, with dessert—an assortment of cakes, pastries and other sweet delights inspired by the Jewish diaspora—coming courtesy of Loquat. Following the Shabbat dinner, members of the Yemenite Orchestra will perform for attendees, creating a cultural immersion of sound, and community — a warm way to welcome Shabbat together.
“Jewish culture is a tapestry woven from many lands, languages, and flavors,” said Value Culture founder, Adam Swig. “Celebrating Yemenite traditions through food, music, and spirit reminds us how deeply connected we all are through history and heart. It’s a true treat to have members of the Yemenite Orchestra performing and sharing their incredible artistry with our community.”” Based in Berlin, the Yemenite Orchestra is dedicated to preserving and artistically presenting the rich and diverse Jewish musical traditions of Yemen. Under the direction of internationally acclaimed musical director Eyal El Wahab, the orchestra blends tradition with innovation to bring Yemenite music to new audiences while honoring and promoting Yemen’s unique musical heritage. A collection of Yemenite Orchestra members are touring the United States and they’ll be making a special stop at the JCCSF to share their music, traditions, and the spirit of Shabbat. Value Culture is dedicated to removing barriers to arts, culture, and philanthropy. Inspired by the Jewish value of tikkun ha olam (repairing the world), Value Culture curates memorable experiences that foster connection and understanding. The JCCSF collaborates with Value Culture to offer diverse Jewish and engaging Jewish cultural and community experiences.
