Rock On Redux: A Musical Panorama on Healthy Aging

Rock music is now an elder statesman having been born in the mid-1950s. Rock historian and author Richie Unterberger pays tribute to this milestone by showing and discussing film clips of performances by legends, including Paul McCartney, Bonnie Raitt, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Judy Collins, Jorma Kaukonen, and Leonard Cohen. Also featured are vintage clips by greats who made some of their most impactful musical statements in middle age or later, from Muddy Waters and Jeff Beck to Louis Armstrong and Sun Ra. The program will feature different clips than the “Rock On” event Unterberger presented previously. 

Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books, including volumes on the Beatles, the Who, the Velvet Underground, Bob Marley, and 1960s folk-rock. He teaches courses on rock and soul music history at several Bay Area colleges. His latest book, San Francisco: Portrait of a City, was published by Taschen earlier this year.
