Josephine Riese

Art Specialist

Youth & Family

Josephine “Josie” Riese is a Children’s Art Specialist at the Brotherhood Way Preschool, where she brings together her passions for early childhood education and creative expression. She holds an associate’s degree in social behavior and development and a bachelor’s degree in child development with a concentration in early education and a minor in special education.

Josie leads the preschool’s arts program, creating meaningful, process-focused experiences that allow children of all ages to explore, imagine, and express themselves. Through small-group work and school-wide events, including the annual art show, she creates a nurturing, therapeutic space where children receive individual attention and build confidence through creativity. Her approach centers on honoring children as capable, curious co-learners and valuing the creative process over the final product.

In addition to her classroom work, Josie serves on the JCC leadership board, supporting professional development and teacher training across the community. Originally from Southern California, she enjoys hiking, traveling, exploring the Bay Area coastline, and creating art in her free time. Her dedication, creativity, and thoughtful approach enrich the learning community at the JCCSF.
