YOSSI KLEIN HALEVI & KRISTA TIPPETT – ISRAEL SINCE OCTOBER 7

Yossi Klein Halevi, one of Israel’s most prolific and profound writers and journalists, is a senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem and the bestselling author, most recently, of Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor. He sits down with Krista Tippett, Peabody-award winning creator and host of On Being for a conversation about the current state of affairs in Israel, how Israel is viewed from the inside versus from the outside, and the impact of October 7 and the Gaza War on Israeli attitudes toward peace, Palestinian statehood, and the foreseeable future of Diaspora-Israeli relations. 

Yossi Klein Halevi is a senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. Together with Imam Abdullah Antepli of Duke University, he co-directs the Institute’s Muslim Leadership Initiative (MLI), which teaches emerging young Muslim American leaders about Judaism, Jewish identity and Israel. Halevi’s 2013 book, Like Dreamers, won the Jewish Book Council’s Everett Book of the Year Award. His latest book, Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor, is a New York Times bestseller. He writes for leading op-ed pages in the US, including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and is a former contributing editor to the New Republic. Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Israel in 1982, and lives in Jerusalem with wife, Sarah, who helps run a center for Jewish meditation. They have three children. 

Krista Tippett is a Peabody-award winning broadcaster, National Humanities Medalist, and New York Times bestselling author. She created and hosts On Being, which has won the highest honors in broadcast, Internet and podcasting. She leads The On Being Project, which produces a second successful podcast, Poetry Unbound, and is evolving to meet the callings of the post-2020 world. Emergent in 2024 is the Lab for the Art of Living, alongside gatherings and “quiet conversations” to accompany the generative people and possibilities within this tender, tumultuous time to be alive. Krista grew up in a small town in Oklahoma, attended Brown University, worked as a young journalist and diplomat in Cold War Berlin, and later received a Master of Divinity from Yale. Her books are Speaking of Faith, Einstein’s God and, most recently, Becoming Wise: An Inquiry into the Mystery and Art of Living.
