Join us for 70 Faces of Torah Limmud Symposium: An Afternoon of Learning & Making, where we celebrate the richness and complexity of Torah through the lens of the rabbinic phrase “Shiv’im Panim LaTorah,” The Torah has seventy faces. This powerful idea reflects the diverse perspectives, voices, and interpretations that have shaped Jewish learning for generations. 

This immersive day of Jewish exploration is designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and build community. Through interactive Torah study, hands-on creative workshops, and dynamic discussions, you’ll experience how the many interpretations of Torah can illuminate your own Jewish journey. 

Whether you’re a seasoned scholar or just beginning your path, there’s something for everyone. Choose from a variety of inspiring, thought-provoking sessions led by passionate educators and facilitators. 

What to Expect: 

  • Welcoming Community: Begin the day with a warm, inclusive kickoff 
  • Two Breakout Learning Sessions: Choose from a wide range of topics 
  • Creative Workshops: Engage your head, hands, and heart 
  • Text Study & Dialogue: Explore Torah in new and relevant ways

Session 1
Playing with Light: Seeing Ourselves Anew
With JCCSF Early Childhood Nature Specialist, Julia Glanville
3:30 – 4:15 pm
Explore the interplay of light, shadow, reflection and perspective in this creative workshop inspired by the idea of B’Tzelem Elohim, being made in the image of the divine. Through materials that bend, blur and reveal, we’ll experiment with how transparency, translucence and reflection shape the stories we tell and the ways we see ourselves and one another.

Poetry & Song: From Psalms to Present
With JCCSF Senior Jewish Educator, Rabbi Batshir
4:20 – 5:00 pm
Reading, writing, and chanting; exploring how ancient psalms and contemporary poetry resonate today with Rabbi Batshir Torchio, JCCSF Senior Jewish Educator.
