Image of the Child

We consider all children to have potential, curiosity, and interest in constructing their learning, in engaging in social interaction, and in negotiating with everything that their environment offers them. We provide opportunities for learning, exploration, creativity and self-expression so that children can take an active role in the construction of their own knowledge.

Role of the Teacher

Our professional early childhood teachers are learners along with the children as they co-construct the learning experience and explore with the children. Our teachers facilitate children's ability to represent what they know and imagine. They also listen to and observe children, ask questions, identify the children's ideas, stimulate children's thinking and provide experiences for discovery and learning.

Environment & Materials

Our environment is warm and welcoming and fosters children's ability to make choices, problem solve, master skills and develop relationships. Through conscious use of space, color, natural light, aesthetics, displays of children's work, and attention to detail and organization, the environment is used as a third teacher. We provide children with a wide range of materials in order to engage children's minds, bodies and emotions. Each material offers its own particular qualities to the children and gives them a chance to build an understanding of the world's richness and complexity.

Documentation

Observing children in action and documenting what they are learning is an important component used in our program to create projects as well as to make the children's learning visible. Documentation provides opportunities for communication, reflection, and revisiting of ideas, experiences and project work. It also provides a record of the learning process and a way to review past experiences and plan future ones.
