Let’s get creative. The JCCSF offers a variety of art classes, ranging from sculpture to painting to drawing. Led by instructors with both heart and talent, each class gives you the chance to express yourself and get inspired by others.
Don't let staying at home prevent you from unleashing your creativity! These guided lessons will teach you the basics of how to approach acrylic painting by using objects found at home. Whether you are a total beginner or adept at painting, this 4 week course will help hone your fundamental painting skills in a comfortable and inviting format. Classes will run 1 hour with an additional hour for student/teacher interaction and questions. These classes will take place on Zoom.Purchase these materials as soon as possible so you'll have it in time for class.Blick Acrylic Paint, Set of 12 , Assorted Brush Set, Canvas Pack of 5, Disposable Palette Pad, Table EaselYou also may want these additional materials handy: Jar for water, rags, palette knife (optional).Week 1: Black and White Still Life PaintingMeet your fellow artists and get familiar with the materials. We’ll start the first demo using a single object and only black and white paint. The focus will be on composing and rendering light and shadow accurately. Week 2: Full Palette Still LifeIntro to colors and color mixing. This session focuses on how to approach a still life painting with three objects using a full palette. Week 3: Still Life with Glass/Metal ObjectWe’ll continue with the full palette; now focusing on including objects with glass or metal texture. You’ll learn what to look for when painting such textures. Week 4: Personal Still Life PieceYou’ll create a set-up of your choosing and use techniques covered in previous classes to complete your own unique still life painting. Demonstration on how to convey more detail for a greater finish on paintings.Instructor Bio:Jaime Longa is an artist native to San Francisco whose work focuses on a variety of themes linked to urban life, social justice, and the human condition. He received his BFA and MFA in painting at Academy of Art University where he studied under renowned artists including Craig Nelson and Carolyn Meyer. Working primarily in oil, his paintings have been exhibited in galleries across the country and featured in major art publications including Southwest Art and The Artists Magazine. Jaime regularly teaches many types of painting courses and has a passion to help others cultivate their individual creativity. He is currently represented by Elliott Fouts Gallery in Sacramento, CA.
