Giants of Jazz on Film
East Coast, West Coast, and Points In-between
Presented by Mark Cantor
Jazz historian and raconteur Mark Cantor celebrates jazz performed by smaller combos—trios through sextets—and compares styles from the East and West Coasts, as well as Chicago and Kansas City. Artists featured on screen are Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers; the Horace Silver Sextet; Shelly Manne & His Men; the Lighthouse All Stars; the Thelonious Monk Quartet; Turk Murphy Jazz Band and many others.
"Mark Cantor has one of the very best collections of jazz films in the world. Mark is an essential resource to anyone making a film about jazz."
