#1 on iTunes USA Jazz Chart!
Sophie Milman

Please note: This performance has been rescheduled from October 17th to January 30th. If you purchased tickets to the October 17th performance, please call the Box Office at 415.292.1233 to either receive new tickets or for a full refund.

Fresh from sold-out appearances at the Blue Note, the Hollywood Bowl and the Kennedy Center, the Israeli-Canadian vocalist, born in Russia, channels Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald to create her own, inventive brand of jazz.

The New York Post noted that “Milman isn’t restricted to the sweet, girly love songs – in fact, she isn’t restricted to the jazz canon.” Whether it was Joni Mitchell’s “Be Cool,” Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire” or Paul Simon’s “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover,” the Post raved, “This bright star of jazz’s next generation may just up the temperature.”

Irving Berlin's I Love a Piano

I LOVE A PIANO is an enchanting new musical journey spanning seven decades of American history as seen through the perceptive and hopeful eyes of Irving Berlin – a man whom Jerome Kern described by saying "Irving Berlin has no place in American music...He is American Music!"

Using 64 of Berlin’s enduring and popular favorites, I LOVE A PIANO captures the spirit of America from the Ragtime rhythms of the early 20th century through the swinging sophistication of the 1920s and 30s. From the sentimental songs that inspired a nation during two World Wars to the innocent optimism of the 1950’s. Timeless classics, such as “White Christmas,” “God Bless America,” “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” do more than define the music of a generation, they define the music of our country.

“The Bounty of Berlin proves a masterstroke…I was in love with this enchanting entertainment!” – LA Times

“The strutting, cajoling, embracing songs are newly revealed to an audience that has somehow escaped the wizardry of Berlin's achievements over much of the 20th century...rousing and toe tapping!” – Variety

Jazz on the Tube
In the ‘50s and ‘60s, new styles were being invented before audiences eyes: Louis Armstrong’s New Orleans jazz, Eddie Condon’s Chicago jazz, the Count Basie swing, the bebop of Charlie Parker, the cool jazz of Shorty Rogers, experimental music with Lennie Tristano and the piano solos of Art Tatum. And they did it live on television!
