Keynote
David Grossman
In conversation with Robert Alter, Class of 1937 Professor of Hebrew and Comparative Literature, UC Berkeley
One of Israel's most respected authors and beloved champions for peace makes a rare Bay Area appearance to talk about the life and conscience of a nation that, he says, has lost faith in its leaders and its ideals. Author of six internationally acclaimed novels including
The Yellow Wind,
Her Body Knows,
Be My Knife,
See Under: LOVE and dozens of essays, Grossman is a voice of compassion and reason at a time of deep uncertainty.
Reading his latest novel,
Isha Borahat Mibesora (Until the End of the Land), one cannot help but draw connections to the death of his son, a soldier in the final days of the Second Lebanon War. The book was hailed by
Haaretz as Grossman's best effort in more than 15 years.
A program of the Taube Center for Jewish Life at the JCCSF and the Israel Center of the Jewish Community Federation, and presented in partnership with the Taube Center for Jewish Studies at Stanford University and the Consulate General of Israel in San Francisco.
David Grossman will sign books immediately following the program, from Noon to 12:30 pm.
